Domaine Château Mons Delaunay
"Philippe Delaunay, a former internationally renowned architect, decided upon retirement to purchase a nice house with a hectare as a vineyard for his own pleasure. He found this Chateau Mons with 3.5 hectares only. What he discovered after was the great potential under his feet; a “Terroir” that has a very similar structure with Chateau Ausone and Le Pin. A very big and strong limestone bedrock with on top 80 cm to 1 meter of “noble” clay; with ostrea (micro-oysters).
Like the greatest vintages of Bordeaux, Chateau Mons Delaunay is entirely dedicated to a single wine, an expression of its exceptional terroir. Their second wine “Diane de Mons” is only produced very occasionally.
In 2009, his wine was given a stunning rating of 94/100 by Herve Pennequin, head Sommelier of the HKJC and 3rd World Best Sommelier.
Plot: the Domaine is located near the city of Blaye, in Bordeaux region on the right side of the Dordogne river.
Vines: A blend of Merlot 80%, Cabernet Sauvignon 15 % and Malbec 5%.
