Domaine Perrot – Minot
"The domaine owns a dozen hectares on the nicest appellations of the Côte de Nuits including 7 Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin and 8 premier crus mainly on Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée.
When Christophe Perrot-Minot was younger, he liked making very structured wines, quite extracted, therefore a modern and assertive style at that time. Over the years though, his taste and vision of Pinot Noir have radically changed and since the 2006 vintage, the extraction of tannins by punching down has been completely stopped. Naturally very accurate and demanding, Christophe Perrot-Minot has practiced “haute couture” winemaking (as he previously studied fashion design).
Christophe Perrot-Minot spent a lot of effort, dedication and hard work in all his vineyards along with his team running certified organic viticulture. A very low yield policy is applied to make sure grapes will be harvested with the maximum of concentration and maturity.
Manic sorting of the harvest, doubled up by an optical machine and a density machine to make sure that only the right berries from each grape will be retained. Gentle and precise extraction of the tannins using the latest technologies and an extremely accurate process to either push down or pump over each vat. In the end, the wines are of an incredible breed. The villages have the density of a premier cru due to their high concentration of fruit. The tannins are beautifully integrated, giving the wine's flesh a touch of great sensuality on the palate. The higher you go in the range, the more the wines are real monuments. Complexity, length, construction and ULTRA refined feel. The ULTRA cuvées from century-old vines transport us beyond what we can imagine on a premier cru. The Combe d'Orveau Ultra has the expression of a great Musigny, while the Richemone could come from Chambertin.
Since the 2014 vintage, Christophe has reached the ultimate level of what is possible to achieve in Burgundy. Michel Bettane gave him in 2017 the 5th star in his wine guide, it is the ultimate award that is only kept for “Remarkable producers” such as Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Leroy. The purest, digest and silkiest as well as terroir driven and concentrated wines. Here is the new “Prince of Cote de Nuits.”
