Laurent Martelet embodies high-quality winemaking based on proximity to the vines, agronomy and integrity. Authentic Burgundian classicism, sought-after autonomy, respect for the terroir and nature, expressive wines that convey a message about their place of origin.
His approach is based on demanding common sense, fuelled by a constant quest for accuracy. The wood used for the barrels comes from their own forests, selected tree by tree. Carbon management, the pursuit of self-sufficiency and compost production reflect a clear desire for independence and consistency. Nature is placed above all else, with the sky as the only limit. This approach of integrity is reflected in wines that are classic in the noblest sense of the term: authentic Burgundian classicism, embodying timeless and human values, particularly precious in these unstable times. The message of the wines is earthy, clear, faithful to the terroir, close in spirit to that of the Bonins, but with an expression even more deeply rooted in the soil.
The Domaine Comtesse de Chérisey, located in the hamlet of Blagny between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, is a historic estate founded in 1811. It is now run by Laurent Martelet and his wife Hélène Martelet-de Chérisey. The vineyard, exclusively classified as premier cru, covers approximately six hectares of vines with an average age of over sixty years. Among the major cuvées is Meursault-Blagny ‘La Genelotte’, an exceptional monopole from a very large Chardonnay terroir that has long remained silent.
